Shire got back to league action last night but lost their unbeaten away League record (which had stretched back near 1 year) and more importantly lost ground on teams above them by losing to University of Stirling at the Falkirk Stadium.
The Shire should have taken the lead the 8th minute when good passing down left wing by Del Ure and Liam Allison gave Andy Rodgers a good chance but remarkably Walker in the University goal made a great save.
6 minutes later a Paul Sludden snap shot just went wide.
Ashe had a chance for University of Stirling when he was unmarked at the back post but his drive went wide.
On 20 minutes Shire keeper Jamie Barclay had to be alert to a save a deflected shot.
After this it was mainly all Shire attacking and in the 36th minute Kris Faulds put a ball straight across in front of goal but there were no takers.
Then within a minute of this missed Shire chance University of Stirling took the lead when McEwan cut in from the left wing and put an angular drive past Jamie Barclay.
3 minutes later the Shire fell further behind when Paul McCafferty was given too much space and from 20 yards out he was allowed to set up his own shot which no keeper would have saved, sometimes even when it is against you all you can do is admire the skill.
With 3 minutes to go before half time from a Shire corner Jordan Tapping picked up a yellow card by trying to push the ball into the goal with his arm, he claimed he was pushed.
In the 2nd half and on 59 minutes the Shire got back into the game when Andy Rodgers hit home from within the 6 yard box following good work down the right by Andy Grant.
Then a minute later an Andy Rodgers shot was just over.
After this University of Stirling had a chance to increase their lead but Jamie Barclay tipped the ball round the post.
Jordan Tapping received his 2nd yellow card and subsequent red card on 67 minutes when he body checked a player on the half way line, more awkward than meant but the referee decision was to send him off.
University of Stirling took advantage of the extra man by finding space in the Shire box for Hall to beat Jamie Barclay to restore their 2 goal lead.
Late on in the game it could have been even worse but for a last ditch tackle by Andy Grant which kept the final score at 1-3 in favour of the students.
