They say 7 days is a long time in football well so it seemed as the Shire turned in an excellent away performance today against a physical team who were sitting above us in the league table.

Drew Ramsay called off the morning of the game due to work commitments so it meant we played with 4 central defenders in our back 4 positions with Connor Greene & Adam Murray occupying the full back positions.

Shire started the game brightly though Selkirk did give us an early scare.

Immediately after this Paul Sludden collected a ball 20 yards out from the Selkirk goal on his right foot, cleverly transferred to his left foot where upon he curled a magnificent shot into the top left hand corner of the net passed the despairing Gregor Amos. This put the Shire 1 goal ahead, 2 minutes gone.

On 17 minutes Selkirk keeper Amos saved well from Andy Rodgers chance from close range.

On 41 minutes Shire doubled their lead when ex-Shire player Reece Donaldson gave away a foul on the corner of the box when the ball was cleared. The Selkirk keeper set his wall but Andy Rodgers was able to put a fantastic shot low round the wall for a good goal into the bottom right hand corner of the net, Amos in goals hadn’t even moved. This goal from Rodgers equalled the Shire’s top goal scoring records for all games since the 2nd world war with 82 goals.

2-0 up at the break so next goal was important and it came for us in the 56th minute when Jamies McCormack sent a long bouncing ball into the box and Paul Sludden was able to chip the advancing keeper.

Connor Greene was denied twice on the 73rd minute when 2 shots were cleared off the line.

The 3-0 win, at a ground we had had major issues at in the previous season, was an excellent performance with all players getting plus marks.
