This was the first occasion the Shire have played Edusport Academy and for this game we were without 4 regular players (captain Del Ure suspended, Adam Murray unavailable due to work commitments, Kris Faulds & Jordan Tapping both out with injuries).

Shire started the better of the 2 teams and in the 5th minute Graeme MacGregor hit a shot from 20 yards out which just went over the bar. Graeme has not scored for the Shire in his 4 years with the club but he is getting closer. A Liam Allison drive just missed the goal then an Andy Rodgers header just went over the bar.

On 31 minutes Shire had the ball in the net but Paul Sludden was offside.

Just before the interval the Edusport Academy number 4 had a long range shot deflected on to the bar with Jamie Barclay well beaten. So it was all square at half time.

Edusport took the lead in 50 minutes when their number 9 took advantage of Shire attacking and won the race against defenders to angle a shot past Barclay.

8 minutes later the Shire got a deserved equalizer with a rather lucky goal when, from a corner, Connor Greene was nearly on the goal line at the back post and he drove the ball hard across the goal and it took a deflection and ended in the net.

With 9 minutes to go the Edusport’s keeper made 2 important saves when a Paul Sludden pile driver was pushed clear and from the save Steven Brisbane tried to put the ball in the other corner only for the keeper to touch the ball round the post.

The game was just about to enter stoppage time and it looked as it though the honours would be shared but Drew Ramsay powered down the left wing and his low cross went across the goal and was met by Jamie McCormack arriving at the back post who drove the ball home.

This was a goal of relief as it meant that the resulting 2-1 win for the Shire was the first home league victory of the season.
