On a bitterly cold afternoon less than 80 fans (although the Shire support did make up over 85% of the crowd) braved the elements to watch this game. The match had an early 2pm kick-off due to the Civil Service Strollers Christie Gillies Park not having floodlights.
Shire started the game better team and Bolo had a header just wide from a Del Ure free kick on 7 minutes. However, 2 minutes later the Shire got out of jail by clearing the ball from their goal line.
On 14 minutes Shire took the lead. An Andy Rodgers shot was deflected for a corner. Del Ure took the corner and placed the ball perfectly to the near post for Rodgers to glance the ball into the net with his head.
Bolo & Rodgers could both have had hat tricks in the 1st half with the chances they had but the Shire did doubled their lead on 33 minutes when Drew Ramsay put in a deep cross from the left wing to the right hand side of the box which Jamie McCormack was able to drive the ball home for 2-0.
Into the 2nd half and on 61 minutes the Shire were awarded a penalty when Kyle Fee tripped Liam Allison as he was about the shoot in the box. Fee was shown the red card for the challenge. Andy Rodgers made no mistake with the penalty to put the Shire further ahead.
To see the Shire go 3 goals up you would think that this was the game won but then the Shire lost a high challenge shortly after in the middle of the park this allowed David Churchill to run through and beat Jamie Barclay, 65 minutes played.
Before the game could be re-started the linesman on the dugout side drew the referee’s attention to something which was said. This resulted in the Strollers manager being asked to leave the field of play.
Shire continued to make more chances and Andy Rodgers hit the bar and the ball bounced down on the goal line and appeared to be over the line. However, the linesman was not up with play so it was no goal although Rodgers had deserved a hat trick.
With 4 minutes remaining Scott Gormley received a second yellow card and subsequent red card for Civil Service for a needless tackle on Adam Murray near the touchline.
In the end the Shire won the game comfortably 3-0.
