Report

‘Shire started the game on the offensive, pressing Edusport’s penalty box. However, in the 6th minute the home team broke down the pitch for 1st time and Thomas Garnier was bundled off the ball by Connor Greene in the penalty box when he was bearing down on the ‘Shire goal. The referee was in no doubt in awarding the penalty which veteran, David Sinclair, stroked the ball low into the net passed Jamie Barclay.

‘Shire themselves had a strong shout for a penalty in the 13th minute, which was waved away despite a lot of appeals from the ‘Shire players, after a home defender had used a “high boot” to challenge Jamie McCormack who had been through on goal.

8 minutes later Adam Murray sent over a cross from the left wing which Paul Sludden met in the box but his header went just over and by the post.

On 24 minutes David Sinclair hit a free-kick across the ‘Shire box and was met by a home player but the resulting shot went wide.

In the 31st minute Edusport’s defender, Raffi Krissian was booked for a what appeared to be a syndical foul in the middle of the park.

2 minutes later Connor Greene was clean through on the right wing and ran through into the box. However, he elected to cross rather than shot and the chance was lost.

Straight after this Edusport Academy should been been reduced to 10 men when Raffi Krissian committed his 2nd bad challenge of the match but referee, Ross Anderson, signalled “play-on”.

1 minute later ‘Shire stepped up the pressure but a corner from the left proved fruitless.

However, in the next minute ‘Shire did level the game. Jordan Tapping sent in a long ball into the box which Andy Rodgers latched onto a 1 on 1 with the home goalkeeper, coming out on top he then placed the ball passed the keeper shooting into the empty net from 6 yards.

‘Shire continued to take the game to the home team and 2 minutes before the interval Sludden sent in a corner from the left to the edge of the box to Rodgers. Andy sent in a shot through a forest of legs but it was blocked by the last defender.

The ‘Shire took the game by the scruff of the neck right from the start of the 2nd half and 4 minutes in captain Del Ure disposessed an Edusport’s player in the home box and sent in a good shot which the home keeper was only able to clear to Sludden at the right side of the box. Paul fired in a shot which was again saved by the keeper but the ball went straight back to Sludden who crossed the ball along the 6 yard line, however, this time the keeper was able to collect the ball.

5 minutes later Jamie McCormack saw his shot blocked for a corner. Jordan Tapping met the resulting corner at the edge of the box but his header hit the bar and went over.

In the 56th minute McCormack played a one two with Sludden and was just about clean through but a last ditch tackle saved the day for the home side.

‘Shire were now in complete control of the game and in the 66th minute Drew Ramsay, on the left, crossed in ball which the home keeper palmed out only to McCormack on the right who smacked in a rocket shot from the edge of the box which crashed off the far post and Edusport were able to clear.

2 minutes later and the ‘Shire deservedly went into the lead when Connor Greene tore down the right wing and hit an unstoppable left-footed shot into the far corner of the net.

Quick as a flash the ‘Shire went 3-1 up. Only 1 minute after the 2nd goal Paul Sludden found himself through on the left wing and he ran into the box. Then, with only the keeper to beat, he perfectly slotted the ball round the keeper into the net.

3 minutes later Drew Ramsay put in a cross from the left straight to Rodgers who was unmarked in the box. Unfortunately Andy’s shot from 5 yards went straight into the keeper’s arms.

With 75 minutes played the home team made a change with Connor Higgins replacing Zejhdane.

‘Shire continued to hunt further goals and on 76 minutes Paul Sludden had a shot from the edge of the box which the keeper saved.

1 minute later Paul shot again from the edge of the box on the right but the ball hit the side of the net.

In the 80th minute Jamie Barclay had his 1st meaningful save when he sent behind an Edusport’s cross come shot for a corner.

1 minute later Edusport’s Liam Coogans was shown a yellow card.

‘Shire then brought on Graeme MacGregor for Jordan Tapping.

In the 83rd minute David Sinclair had a free-kick from the edge of the box from the home team but his shot was easily held by Barclay.

With 4 minutes to go Jamie McCormack had a shot from 15 yards which was well saved.

The next minute the same player was booked for what appeared to be a slight grappling of an Edusport’s player.

The next minute Sludden had another shot for the ‘Shire from the right, 15 yards out, but it went wide.

With seconds left Steven Brisbane replaced Drew Ramsay and immediately after the full time whistle was blown.

After the disappointment of the home draw 5 days earlier in the week the ‘Shire players showed true grit and put in a top class display, with the 2nd half performance being probably the best since the incredible away against East Kilbride.

The result of the game meant that the ‘Shire moved into 2nd place (albeit briefly) for the 1st time this season and also kept up the incredible recent run of recents.

Two clubs records were broken as a result of this win. The 1st record is ‘Shire are now on a run of 13 competitive games without defeat which is the best in our whole history. The 2nd is that this was the club’s 9th away win in a row and is now our all-time record run of away wins in all games, all competitive games and record league wins in a row.
